About Holly

I was nine years old when I first picked up a flute—and I haven’t put it down since.  Over the years, that one decision opened the door to a life filled with music, performance, and teaching. Today, I have the joy of helping students discover their musical voices, whether they’re just beginning or refining advanced skills. For over 25 years, I’ve worked with students of all ages and levels, guiding them as they develop both technical skills and personal confidence.

I’ve performed with the Nashville and Huntsville Symphony Orchestras, Nashville Opera, Symphony Orchestra of Northern Virginia, Main Street Chamber Orchestra in Berryville, Virginia, Nashville Flute Choir,  Nashville Praise Symphony, and on WPLN’s Live from Studio C. My career has brought me into symphony halls, chamber groups, solo recital stages, and even the occasional pop concert. Earlier in my career, I was named a winner at the Mid-South Flute Festival—one of many steps along the way. Each setting has taught me something different about what it means to connect through music.

I currently work with students in my home studio and through Shepherd University’s Community Music Division. I’ve also taught flute at the collegiate level as an adjunct professor at Cumberland University, led flute clinics, built private studios in several states, and taught general music and choir in public schools. Outside of music, I’ve homeschooled my two sons and worked with other homeschooling families in a variety of academic subjects.

Many of my students have earned spots in All-State Bands and regional honor ensembles—a reflection of their dedication and growth. Whether a student dreams of an audition or simply wants to play beautifully for themselves, I love helping them get there.

I hold a Master of Music in Flute Performance from The Hartt School and a Bachelor of Music Education from Houghton College. My most influential teachers have been Gitte Marcusson, John Wion, Bradley Garner, and Nancy Sanderson, and I’ve had the opportunity to learn from renowned artists such as Peter Verhoyen, Goran Marcusson, Michel Debost, Leone Buyse, Robert Willoughby, Patricia Spencer, and Brooks de Wetter-Smith through advanced study and masterclasses.

I’m a member of the Washington Flute Society and attend the Wildacres Flute Retreat, where I continue studying flute pedagogy and deepening my work as both a teacher and performer.  When I’m not in the studio or on stage, I enjoy flower gardening, traveling, and spending time with my family. I also share my home with four crazy cats and one cheerful dog.
