Learn to Play the Flute
Flute Foundations for Homeschoolers

This fun and engaging class is designed for homeschool children to learn how to play the flute in a supportive group setting. Students meet for weekly group classes where they learn the basics of flute playing, music reading, rhythm, and good listening skills. Each class is planned to help students build strong musical habits while having fun with their classmates. This class helps children grow in confidence, coordination, and creativity, all while learning to enjoy and appreciate music.

Kids will learn on Nuvo jFlutes, an excellent choice for beginners. Weighing just over half as much as a traditional metal flute, it’s easier for small hands to hold and play—plus it’s durable, washable, and low-maintenance. Whether your child is learning at home, performing at a recital, or playing outside with friends, this flute is built to go anywhere. Teachers around the world love Nuvo flutes for their smart design and reliability—and best of all, it’s available for under $150. Learn more here.
Tutti Flutti – Homeschool Flute Class for Ages 7 to 10
Excitement. Progress. Belonging.
Imagine your child lighting up with excitement as they walk into music class—eager to play, connect, and grow. That’s exactly what Tutti Flutti is all about. As a homeschooling mom myself and former elementary school music teacher, I understand the importance of nurturing the whole child. This class is designed not only to teach kids how to play the flute, but also to help them grow in confidence, focus, independence, and creativity—all in a fun, encouraging group setting.

What’s in the Name?
Tutti is an Italian music term that means “everyone plays together.” And that’s what we do: learn, grow, and play side by side. “Flutti”? That’s just a little flute fun.
About the Class
Tutti Flutti is a 45-minute small-group class specifically designed for boys and girls ages 7–10, meeting in Shenandoah Junction, WV. We use the Nuvo jFlute, a lightweight, kid-friendly flute that’s perfect for beginners. The curriculum is based on The Flute Zoo series, a playful and progressive program for young learners created by flute pedagogue, Kathy Blocki. Why Music? Why Flute?
This class is about more than learning notes. It’s about wiring the brain for growth.
Learning to play the flute engages multiple areas of the brain at once—including those used for language, memory, motor control, math, and emotional processing. These mental “workouts” strengthen your child’s ability to focus, solve problems, and retain information across subjects.
“Children who receive music training showed changes in brain structure and stronger engagement of the network involved in decision-making.”
— USC Brain & Creativity Institute (MedicalXpress)
“Music education stimulates the brain, enhancing memory, attention, and problem‑solving skills.”
— Des Moines Symphony

“Music reaches parts of the brain that other things can’t,”... “It’s a strong cognitive stimulus that grows the brain in a way that nothing else does, and the evidence that musical training enhances things like working memory and language is very robust.”
-The Guardian
